Staff members taking part include Jim Beeton, Gardener; Martyna Sak, Waitress; Kieron Bales, Operations Manager; and Sonia Bulimaibau, Manager of The Edge Health & Fitness Club.

Collectively, the team are completing over 90 miles a week in training for the event, including the miles Martyna burns up on the treadmill each day before work, at the Hotel’s state-of-the-art gym, The Edge Health & Fitness Club.

Kieron Bales, Operations Manager at Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa, noted: “It is great to train with the other members of staff; the encouragement we give each other ensures we are pushing ourselves every session – it is amazing what you can achieve with a little competition!”

Sonia Bulimaibau, Manager of The Edge Health & Fitness Club, is using the Cambridge half marathon as part of her training for the Jurassic Coast Challenge in March (three marathons in three days), in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund; and the Everest Marathon in May. Sonia is no stranger to marathons, she has run 11 half marathons and 10 full marathons to date, with her toughest challenge earning her a world record when she completed 50 miles a day over 11 days in Afghanistan.Sonia commented: “I am really looking forward to running through Cambridge; I am new to the City so it will give me a chance to see all the iconic buildings, including Kings College and the Fitzwilliam Museum.”

Kieron remarked on Sonia’s achievements: “Sonia is an inspiration when it comes to marathons, it is an honour to train with her and I know she will help us all over the finish line.”
